Nintendo announced this announcement in a recent commercial that’s been airing in Japan. The commercial itself is for Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, but — after the ad finishes informing monster-less consumers about the new and improved Unova region — a teaser emerges that instructs fans of an impending reveal. According to the teaser, as reported by Serebii, the announcement is scheduled to take place on January 8th.

No one’s sure what the announcement will entail, but many believe it may finally be the long awaited debut of a core Pokemon title on the Nintendo 3DS. If it’s not a whole new journey full of 6th generation monsters, then it’s entirely possible that gamers may finally get those Ruby and Sapphire remakes that they’ve shown an interest in receiving. There’s also an off chance that it could be a Pocket Monster title for the Wii U — which some may recall scored the number one spot in our list of 10 Nintendo franchises that should come to the console.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that this announcement has absolutely nothing to do with a new game at all. The wait to find out will be rather short, though, so fans can have fun speculating in the meantime.

What do you think the Pokemon announcement will be?
